| How does that work ? |
Water naturally levels and sinks to the lowest level. We use this to our advantage with the above installation method. The extra cut-out hole in the corner of the basement is known as the sump pit. If the basement is not level we put the sump pit in the lowest corner. If it is level, we can place it anywhere that fits our uses for the basement. The water in the basement will level out and some of it will drain into the sump pit. As it does so, the sump pump turns on and starts to put the water through its discharge pipe. As the pump drains the water from the pit, more of the water from the basement naturally drains into the sump pit and this cycle continues until the only water in the basement is a tiny amount in the bottom of the sump pit.
